Vibrant Parks

The City of Anoka is very fortunate to have 34 park locations and about 8 miles of off-street trails throughout the parks.  Each of our parks are unique and are a wonderful asset to our community.  We have a very dedicated park staff, who work hard to care for our parks, playgrounds, buildings, and trails.

Unfortunately, our parks have not been adequately funded for a number of years. Most of the funding for park improvements has come from the profits of the Municipal Liquor Store(s) and in recent years this has not been an adequate source of funding.  I believe that we need to create a better way to fund improvements in our parks.  I believe that adequate funding should be included in the annual budget itself and the City should not just rely on enterprise funds like the Municipal Liquor Store for park improvements and maintenance.

Our parks are a wonderful resource and great asset for our city.  Maintaining and improving our parks should be one of our highest budgetary priorities.
